Fundamentals of NVC - Friday (M&M)

  • Online Via Zoom 10001 (map)

For an in-depth learning of the fundamentals of Nonviolent Communication and a journey through "Nonviolent Communication, A Language of Life" by Marshall Rosenberg, please join Michael Dillo, CNVC Certified Trainer and Assessor, and Matthew Lederman, CNVC Certification Candidate (being assessed in January 2023) starting in March of 2023.

This group will be meeting on Fridays, beginning on March 3rd and ending on April 21st, from 12 pm - 2 pm EST via Zoom. The zoom link will be emailed one week out from the start date.

  • What is it? This is a highly interactive, discussion-based exploration of Marshall Rosenberg’s book “Nonviolent Communication: a Language of Life, 3rd Ed.” (Puddle Dancer Press, 2015). Together, we will form an online learning community in which we can apply what we’ve read about with real people in real conversation. Reading, reflection, and review homework provide participants with the opportunity to make the most of the weekly online interactions, which will focus on practice and application. This is an excellent foundational workshop for the beginner or a sound refresher for returning practitioners.

  • Who is it for? This course is for people who have occasion to communicate with people and want to be able to do so more effectively, especially in the conversations which are most important to us. The people who will get the most out of the experience are those who read along in advance of each week’s session and come ready and willing to risk trying the things they read about in a real conversation with a real person.

  • What is unique about this course? Rosenberg’s compassionate communication framework is a powerful tool we can use to make authentic, heart-to-heart connections. Being heard, understood, and accepted is one of the most powerful gifts we can offer one another. It is also a gift that those around us desperately need. This group provides an opportunity to create peace in the world by creating peace within ourselves, as well as between ourselves and all with whom we speak.

The requested amount is $180 USD per participant for the 8-week series. You will also need to buy a copy of Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication, A Language of Life.

Michael, in his "first" life, was a professor of civil engineering. In his Ph.D. thesis, he specialized in underground constructions in rock, which paved his way from his home country Germany to Switzerland in the early 1990s. As much as he enjoyed living in this beautiful country, he became increasingly dissatisfied with his job as an engineer. He struggled with a fear of change and a lot of "I have to …” messages. In 1997 he was inspired to attend a workshop with Marshall B. Rosenberg to find answers to his questions and fears. During the first three day-seminar, he received some fundamental life-changing answers. However, it took him quite a while to understand the difference between intellectually understanding NVC and internalizing it. Finally, he gave up his profession as an engineer. He then has been certified as a CNVC-Trainer in 2004 and started to work worldwide as such. In 2013 he was asked to join the CNVC Assessors Team and the CALF Team in the USA.

Matthew Lederman began his professional medical career studying conventional Western medicine to become a board-certified Internal Medicine physician. He quickly realized more skills and tools were needed if he was going to help people achieve his definition of optimum health: to live in a state of, “Life Is Wonderful.” He began his personal and professional expansion starting with additional training in nutrition and lifestyle medicine, eventually participating in the documentary Forks Over Knives as well as co-authoring 5 books, including a NY Times Bestseller. He further expanded his arsenal of care to include pursuing CNVC Trainer Certification as he found Nonviolent Communication to be the foundation on which mind-body and interpersonal healing lies. He is particularly passionate about bringing NVC into this world to support patients, parents, children, and work teams using technology and other creative outlets. In addition, he strongly believes that effective care must be trauma-informed, and supports that intention through his continued work with the Polyvagal Theory and Somatic Awareness Principles. After 10 years in the corporate world serving as the Whole Foods Market Vice President of Medical Affairs helping launch their national comprehensive medical & wellness centers and integrated hospital and insurance network, Dr. Lederman moved on to build his new venture, WeHeal, with his work and life partner of 15 years. WeHeal is the culmination of decades of learning and practical experience organized into an easily accessible program that does everything just short of guaranteeing lasting health, joy and satisfaction in your life. He currently lives in Orlando, FL with his beautiful wife and two daughters who inspire him every day to do everything in his power to help heal this world.
